Independent candidate Muhammad Salman who was the winner from PP-217 constituency in Multan has been disqualified by Election Commission of Pakistan.

The disqualification has been done on the basis of age. Two voters challenged his victory and claimed that Muhammad Salman was underage at the time of elections.

The petition thus stated that Muhammad Salman does not meet the age requirements that are necessary to be a law maker. ECP also stated that the record of National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) shows that Muhammad Salman is under the age of 25 and is not eligible to contest the election.

He was appointed as the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Transport. Following the announcement of his disqualification, the victory notification was also taken back.

Muhammad Salman had defeated PTI’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi by securing 35,294 votes in the General Elections 2018. A re-election will be held in PP-217 (Multan-VII) constituency.
