There has been a steady increase in the level of water in the river Chenab over the past week and Chenab is now in high flood near Qadirabad. The flow of water passing near Qadirabad has been measured at 305, 971 cusec. Similarly, the flow through Khanki (293, 941 cusec) and Mirala (216, 394 cusec) is devastatingly high.

Due to the flooding of Chenab 40 villages near Hafizabad have been affected, including hundreds of acres of agricultural land destroying crop. Road access to more than 20 villages has been disrupted and they have several feet of standing floodwater due to incessant rain over the past two days. This has added to the existing hurdles rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas.

District authorities had earlier issued flood warnings at the 167 villages along the banks of the Chenab and are now busy in rescue and relief operations in the affected areas. DCO Mansoor Qadir and other senior officials visited the Qadirabad barrage and other affected areas where they were briefed on the ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
