The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had received multiple reports of women not casting their votes in different polling stations in the by-elections.
According to reports, despite 300 women being registered voters at the polling station number 234 at Talagang’s NA-65, no women showed up to give their votes. In a similar trend, the women polling stations at Chakwal remained empty as no women exercised the right to cast votes. It has also been said that the constituency results of Chakwal are most likely to be announced as void due to nil women participation.
By-elections in PK-64 and PK-61 constituency in Nowshera also saw the lack of permission granted to the females to cast votes. According to reports, women were stopped from voting in the Government Primary School Zarra Miryana area at Nowshera. The district returning officers who were informed of the incident held a meeting with the local Jirga leaders after which the issue had been resolved.
The Jirga leaders said that women will be allowed to vote after Zuhr prayers. The Jirga leaders further added that it is the custom of the area that women do not give votes.
